Why Bluebird

Simply put, Bluebird products are the best around. Bluebird Composting is based out of Fulton, MO. As a distributor we are able to offer the same product a little closer to home.

Bluebird tests their products every three months to ensure the nutrients are at an optimal level.

Personally, we have had great results. We also have countless returning customers who couldn’t be happier with what these products have done for their gardens.

Whether you are starting fresh or need to add nutrients to an established garden we have what you need!

What We Offer

Our Flocks

Believe it or not I spent most of my life not wanting anything to do with chickens, but in September 2021 that all changed when we brought home three RIR baby chicks from a farm store. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, but I fell in love! It wasn’t long and there were chickens everywhere!

Our plan was never to have roosters, but when two of those first three started crowing, plans changed! We chose to separate them and add some hens, creating two flocks. (For the record, we love our roosters and will now never have hens without them!) Most of our additional hens were ordered through Cackle, which eliminated adding roosters. (Except those extra roosters we got from that broody hen..) Long story short, well, CHICKEN MATH! We plan to continue adding to our flocks yearly to keep egg production up.

When I realized how hard it is to find hatching eggs locally that aren’t a barnyard mix I figured I’d give it a shot. We have been amazed at the state-wide interest in our eggs!

Our Eggs

“Happy chickens lay happy eggs!”

We are able to collect about one dozen hatch quality eggs each day. We mark them with the flock they are from and the date. They are kept point down and stored on a tilt which we rotate twice a day. Hatching eggs are collected per order to ensure you are able to hatch only the healthiest chicks.

Contact us to order. All orders are filled on a first come first serve basis.

We offer local pickup or shipping to Missouri residents.

A little about us

My husband, Brandt, and I are both Rolla natives. We married in February 2007 and have 3 kids who are just almost full grown (pray for us). We left our quiet country life and moved within city limits the summer of 2019. We don’t belong here, but it was a necessary move. We look forward to getting back home, but in the meantime we are bringing our country life to the city.

So, now the question…why Horses Ass?

In January 2023 our family lost Brandt’s grandfather, John Henry. He lived just shy of 93 years. It’s because of him that we are all a lot smarter and maybe a little more ornery. Those who loved John would tell him that his middle initial stood for Horses Ass and I’m here to tell you he wore it like a badge of honor and lived up to it daily. John always dreamed that his family would be able to profit from the land he had to pass on, and he loved to see us getting back to the Webber roots of farming even if it was chickens instead of dairy cows.

In 2021 Brandt became a distributor for Bluebird Composting. He truly enjoyed getting to know his customers in the previous years and I look forward to getting to know all of you as we move forward. We strongly believe in the products we offer through Bluebird and take pride in the opportunity to offer them to our community.

We aren’t sure where our little homestead will lead us, but we couldn’t be more excited about the possibilities!

What our customers have to say:

"Tori was very friendly and was willing to share information freely about additional homesteading activities (mostly chickens). It is a bit of a drive for me, but I will likely be making it again some day soon."
Tim L.
"I ordered a dozen of RIR hatching eggs from Tori at H.A. Homestead and they arrived quickly in great packaging! None were broken or cracked as each individual egg was carefully wrapped. Out of 12 eggs 9 hatched successfully by themselves with no assistance. All 9 baby chicks were healthy and didn’t need any extra care. No deformities or splay legs. The chicks are now a week old and all are thriving wonderfully! I recommend her for quality RIR hatching eggs."
